CDD Urges Public to Safely Use Heaters to Prevent Deadly Incidents.

Amman: The Civil Defense Department (CDD) has issued a call for the safe use of space heaters during the winter season to avoid potential hazards of misuse, which could trigger severe consequences, primarily injuries and fatalities. According to Jordan News Agency, the Public Security Directorate noted a decrease in space heater-related incidents in 2024, compared to previous years, due to increased public awareness. Since the start of this winter season, the CDD's teams have responded to 76 heater-related emergencies, which injured 89 people, involving suffocation, inhalation of gas emissions, or blazes. The directorate also reported a 10-15% drop in the overall heater accidents, compared to the previous year, amid its calls to avoid risks during the forecast drop in temperatures and increased heater usage. Furthermore, it emphasized the importance of exhibiting safety guidelines, aimed to ensure proper ventilation, conduct regular maintenance, and place heaters in safe locations, away from flammable su bstances.
