Christa Pike Returns to Prison After Hospital Release Following Failed Execution

Nashville:Christa Pike, a death row inmate in Tennessee, has returned to prison after being discharged from the hospital. Her execution by lethal injection was unsuccessful last month, her lawyers confirmed.

According to Anadolu Agency, Pike has been taken back to the Deborah K. Johnson Rehabilitation Center in Nashville. She was originally held there before her scheduled execution on September 30. Her attorneys, Stephen Ferrell, Luke Ihnen, Randy Spivey, and Kelly Gleason, stated that she had been hospitalized but has now returned to the facility where she has been incarcerated for over 30 years.

Pike, 50, survived the administration of two doses of a lethal injection drug. Her legal team reported that she regained consciousness and was able to communicate from her hospital bed. She began taking limited steps with assistance and was eventually walking with some help. Her condition improved with her arms healing, regaining movement and strength, her lungs clearing, and her starting to eat a regular diet.

Pike was convicted in 1995 for the murder of her 19-year-old classmate, Colleen Slemmer, which occurred in a wooded area of the University of Tennessee campus when Pike was 18 years old.
