Amman: Head of the parliamentary Tourism and Antiquities Committee, Salem Al-Omari, on Sunday lit the Christmas tree at Paris Circle in Amman. The event was attended by Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Imad Hijazin, Ministry Secretary-General Yazan Khudair, and Director General of the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) Ramzi Maaytah, along with religious leaders and representatives of the local community.
According to Jordan News Agency, Father Economus Basem Haddad emphasized during the ceremony organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities that the birth of Jesus Christ carries a noble message promoting love, peace, and the rejection of hatred. He noted these spiritual values are deeply rooted in Jordanian society, where various religious groups have historically coexisted in harmony and respect.
He further highlighted Jordan's commitment to human dignity and religious freedom under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, showcasing a model of citizenship, dialogue, and acceptance. Father Haddad asserted that the nation's strength lies in its unity and cohesive national fabric, with the Christmas tree lighting symbolizing hope and peace. He underscored the partnership between Muslims and Christians in nation-building and countering extremist ideologies.
Director of the Third Amman Awqaf Directorate, Ahmad Kharabsheh, remarked that Jordanians have transcended mere coexistence to genuine shared living, united by deep-rooted customs and traditions. He affirmed that Jordan has no history of violating citizenship and coexistence values, with all citizens as partners in national defense.
Kharabsheh also stressed that Jordanian society exemplifies moderation and centrism, distancing itself from extremism and excess, thereby reinforcing unity and ensuring the country's security and stability.
