Aqaba: The 32nd "Clean Up the World 2025" campaign commenced in Aqaba on Wednesday, under the patronage of HRH Princess Basma bint Ali. The event, held under the slogan "Together Let's Celebrate the Green Destination," featured participation from official and security bodies, as well as environmental and community representatives and volunteers.
According to Jordan News Agency, Shadi Majali, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), launched the campaign on behalf of HRH Princess Basma bint Ali. Majali highlighted the campaign's embodiment of cooperative spirit among various societal components, including official institutions, schools, the private sector, security agencies, youth, and volunteers. He emphasized the collective work to serve the nation, noting that the environment is vital for Aqaba, with the sea being a crucial source of life and livelihood for residents. This underscores the shared national and societal responsibility to protect and preserve marine resources.
Majali further emphasized the importance of educating citizens and visitors on safeguarding Aqaba's marine environment, which is integral to economic and tourism development in the Red Sea port. The campaign saw participation from Acting Executive Director of the Royal Society for the Conservation of the Environment, Khaled Al Kurdi, local officials, and heads of security agencies. Over 800 volunteers from various sectors, as well as 18 environmental schools from Aqaba's public and private schools and 40 divers from diving institutions and centers, joined the initiative.
The activities included a cleanup campaign at the Al Mamlah site within the Aqaba Marine Reserve, where approximately 1,330 kg of waste was collected. This effort reinforces Aqaba's reputation as a sustainable green destination.
