Copenhagen:Cristiano Ronaldo was provisionally suspended by the Portuguese Football Federation after disciplinary proceedings were initiated against the 41-year-old forward regarding his departure from the national team camp.
According to Anadolu Agency, the FPF's Non-Professional Section decided on October 9 to begin disciplinary proceedings to examine the circumstances of Ronaldo's exit from the squad. The federation stated that a non-automatic preventive suspension of the player was determined and that the proceedings were given urgent status. Details of the investigation will remain confidential until its conclusion.
Ronaldo left the national team camp in Copenhagen before Portugal's Nations League match against Denmark following a disagreement with head coach Jorge Jesus over his playing time. Ronaldo claimed Jesus initially agreed that he would sit out the matches against Norway and Denmark to manage his fitness, but later told him he would play for 30 minutes against Norway. Ronaldo expressed his frustration by saying, 'I warmed up from half-time onwards, watched the minutes tick by and wasn't called on,' accusing the manager of breaking his word.
Despite Ronaldo's absence, Portugal won all three matches during the international break, with Goncalo Ramos, who replaced Ronaldo, scoring three goals. Ronaldo apologized to his teammates and supporters for leaving the camp and stated he was ready to accept any punishment from the federation. He acknowledged his mistake in leaving and criticized Jesus for the events leading to his departure.
The case has been referred to the FPF's Disciplinary Investigation Commission, but a final decision has not yet been announced.
