Amman: Sunday marks the 32nd birthday of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II. The eldest son of Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al Abdullah, the Crown Prince was born in Amman on 28 June 1994 and is the 42nd generation direct descendant of Prophet Mohammad, peace be upon him.
According to Jordan News Agency, a Royal Decree was issued on 2 July 2009, naming His Royal Highness as Crown Prince. Since then, His Royal Highness has also assumed the role of Regent on several occasions. In 2017, the Crown Prince graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, a prestigious institution from which both his father, King Abdullah II, and his grandfather, the late King Hussein, had also graduated.
In 2016, His Royal Highness graduated from Georgetown University in Washington, DC, majoring in international history. He had completed his earlier education in 2012 from King's Academy school in Madaba. The Crown Prince married Her Royal Highness Princess Rajwa Al Hussein on 1 June 2023, and they have one daughter, Her Royal Highness Princess Iman bint Al Hussein, born on 3 August 2024.
His Royal Highness holds the rank of major in the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army and serves as assistant commander of the Special Battalion 101, a unit of the King Abdullah II Special Forces Group. The Crown Prince has participated in numerous military and specialised field training courses, highlighting his commitment to military service.
The Crown Prince actively engages with young people across Jordan, encouraging their participation in building the country's future. His dedication to youth empowerment is evident through the establishment of the Crown Prince Foundation in 2015, which aims to provide young people with opportunities and skills in competitive fields. Al Hussein Technical University, part of the Crown Prince Foundation, was established in 2016 to focus on applied technical education.
The Crown Prince is also involved in enhancing Jordan's position in the digital economy and improving services through initiatives led by the National Council for Future Technology. His interests extend to tourism, technology, vocational, and technical education sectors.
Representing Jordan on the international stage, the Crown Prince has deputised for the King at numerous forums, including the World Economic Forum in Davos. He has also conducted official visits to various countries, fostering partnerships across multiple fields.
His Royal Highness has been honoured with numerous awards, including the Order of Al Istiqlal (Independence) of the First Degree and the King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein Order for Distinction of the First Degree, among others. The Crown Prince's personal interests include football, diving, hiking, and shooting.
