Department of Statistics Extends 2026 Census Data Collection by Three Weeks

Amman:The Department of Statistics (DoS) has announced a three-week extension to the data collection operations for the 2026 National Population and Housing Census. This decision aims to ensure complete field coverage across all enumeration blocks and to conduct a parallel post-enumeration survey, as confirmed by DoS Director General and National Census Director Haidar Freihat.

According to Jordan News Agency, Freihat revealed that after the initial one-month core field enumeration phase, the census teams will continue their field visits and data verification efforts. This extension is crucial to achieving full coverage and precision across the designated enumeration blocks before the final data is locked.

The Kingdom has been divided into approximately 24,000 enumeration areas to systematically track regions, structures, residential units, households, and individuals. Completing procedural checks in every block is essential to ensure there are no gaps in the final population counts, Freihat emphasized.

The post-enumeration phase aims to evaluate data quality and assess the completeness of coverage to ensure no households or individuals are omitted, thereby reinforcing the statistical validity of the national dataset. Freihat also highlighted the operations room's role in monitoring live data collection and applying real-time error corrections, a first-time protocol for this census, to enhance data accuracy and output quality.

Following the extension, the DoS will proceed with data auditing, processing, and analytical modeling. Final results of the 2026 National Population and Housing Census are anticipated to be publicly released in the first quarter of 2027.

Freihat expressed gratitude to citizens and foreign residents for their cooperation with field researchers. He also commended the support from the Prime Ministry, line ministries, the Ministry of Education, administrative governors, security apparatuses, telecommunications providers, civil society institutions, and media partners in executing the national project.
