Deputizing for King, PM Attends “Jordanian Industry Day” Celebration

Amman: Deputizing for His Majesty King Abdullah II, Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan attended the third annual "Jordanian Industry Day" celebration organized by the Amman Chamber of Industry. During the ceremony, the Prime Minister honored 100 local industrial companies for their achievements in exports and opening new international markets for Jordanian products.

According to Jordan News Agency, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Yarub Qudah emphasized the government's commitment to the industrial sector as a key driver of economic growth and job creation in Jordan. Qudah highlighted the sector's resilience and growth, noting it contributed 40 percent to the 2.8 percent economic growth in the first half of the year. Industrial exports also increased by 8.5 percent in the first seven months.

Qudah pointed out that the sector employs over 250,000 Jordanians and accounts for 90 percent of national exports, showcasing its vital role in the economy. The government is working on strategic projects to reduce production costs, including supplying natural gas to industrial cities. The Industrial Support Fund has financed over JD65 million to 630 companies, aiding in production expansion and job creation.

Fathi Al-Jaghbir, President of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry, expressed gratitude for the King's support, describing the industrial sector as a pillar of economic resilience. Al-Jaghbir highlighted the sector's development, noting that it has created thousands of jobs and investments, with industrial establishments reaching 18,000.

He commended the King's efforts to attract investment and promote exports, establishing Jordan as a regional hub for strategic industries. Al-Jaghbir noted the sector's shift to innovation-driven manufacturing, with significant improvements in global competitiveness rankings.

Al-Jaghbir emphasized the sector's structural transformation, with medium- and high-tech industries comprising 25 percent of total value-added, driven by advanced production and technology adoption. He noted exports reaching over 150 markets, with growth marked by product diversification and innovation.

He also pointed out the decline in foreign labor in favor of Jordanian workers, with women comprising 30 percent of the workforce. The industrial sector's growth on the Amman Stock Exchange, representing 40 percent of market capitalization, indicates investor confidence.

Al-Jaghbir concluded by stressing the need for continued entrepreneurship and innovation to create one million jobs by 2033, aligning with His Majesty's vision for a strong, self-reliant national industry leading Jordan's economic renaissance.
