Drone Smuggling Attempt Intercepted Near Western Border

Amman: Jordanian military forces successfully intercepted a drone attempting to smuggle narcotics across the western border early Thursday morning, according to an official statement by the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army.

According to Jordan News Agency, the incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Southern Military Zone, where border guard units detected the drone and responded in coordination with military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department. Surveillance systems tracked the unmanned aerial vehicle as it attempted to breach Jordanian airspace.

Upon confirmation of its trajectory and payload, troops engaged and downed the drone in accordance with established rules of engagement. The illicit cargo was recovered and handed over to the competent authorities for further investigation.

Military officials emphasized the armed forces' ongoing efforts to counter smuggling operations, particularly those involving narcotics, citing their commitment to safeguarding national security and preventing the infiltration of harmful substances into the country.
