Early Intervention and Disability Detection Unit Launched in Bani Kinanah

Bani kinanah: Social Development Minister Wafaa Bani Mustafa on Wednesday inaugurated an early intervention and disability detection unit in the Bani Kinanah district in the Irbid Governorate. The unit aims to assess infants and toddlers for developmental delays and create customized support plans to enhance their potential, aligning with the government's initiatives to expand inclusive services for people with disabilities across Jordan.

According to Jordan News Agency, the establishment of this unit is part of a national movement towards adopting alternative residential care models that maximize the potential of individuals with disabilities, promoting their integration into families and communities. Minister Mustafa emphasized that this initiative reflects the Royal directives to ensure that individuals with disabilities receive optimal care and protection within a comprehensive service system, aligning with the government's social sector priorities.

The minister noted that the unit's creation addresses the specific needs of the northern district and continues the government's efforts to establish more early intervention units nationwide. The unit is designed to provide early detection services for disabilities, focusing on awareness, prevention, and rehabilitation programs beginning in early childhood to lessen the impact of disabilities in later life stages.

Services at the unit will cater to children with disabilities from birth to six years old, offering special education programs, speech therapy, occupational and physical therapy, family counseling, life skills, rehabilitation, and training. Mustafa further instructed that services be extended to children up to the age of nine, noting that the unit is equipped to serve 60 children with disabilities and provide community-based rehabilitation services for an additional 20 individuals through a specialized staff.
