Eastern Military Zone Thwarts Drug Smuggling Attempt from Syria

Amman: The Eastern Military Zone on Tuesday thwarted an attempt to infiltrate and smuggle "large" quantities of narcotics from Syrian territory into Jordan.

According to Jordan News Agency, a responsible military source in the General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF)-Arab Army stated that border guard forces in the Eastern Military Zone, in coordination with military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND), successfully foiled an attempt to infiltrate and smuggle "significant" quantities of narcotics.

The source noted that the traffickers' movements attempting to cross the Kingdom's border illegally were monitored. Rapid reaction patrols were deployed and the rules of engagement were implemented, forcing the traffickers to retreat deep inside Syria.

Through intensified search and inspection operations, the source reported that "large" quantities of narcotics were seized and transferred to the relevant authorities.

The source affirmed that the JAF is continuing efforts to harness all their capabilities and potential to stop drug trafficking operations to preserve the Kingdom's security and stability.
