Irbid: The National Association for Family Empowerment has launched an initiative called the "Economic Support for Women and Achieving Sustainable Economic Protection" project, funded by the Regional Development and Protection Program in Irbid Governorate. During the launch event, Irbid Governor Radwan Al-Otoum emphasized the significance of creating an environment that fosters comprehensive sustainable development, as advocated by His Majesty King Abdullah. This initiative aims to equip Jordanians with the necessary tools to contribute to national progress and enhance living standards.
According to Jordan News Agency, Al-Otoum also stressed Her Majesty Queen Rania's consistent advocacy for women's participation and empowerment as essential components in building educated, harmonious, and economically thriving societies. Empowering women, he asserted, leads to the empowerment of society as a whole. He highlighted that comprehensive development necessitates granting women their rightful place and rights in society, as their competence is evident across various fields.
Mayor of Greater Irbid Municipality, Nabil Al-Kofahi, expressed the municipality's commitment to empowering youth and women through training initiatives. The municipality has dedicated resources and established a Directorate of Social Responsibility, which includes a unit focused on women's empowerment, to support its vision of a green, investment-attractive city. Collaborating with supportive organizations, the municipality aims to offer women opportunities through more than 20 projects.
Rania Hayouk, Executive Director of the Association, noted that since King Abdullah's ascension, Jordan has seen significant progress in empowering women politically, economically, and socially. However, despite various initiatives and strategies, women's economic participation remains low, with a participation rate not exceeding 14% in 2024. Hayouk explained that the project aligns with national priorities and aims to address the challenges women face across communities, as outlined in the National Strategy for Women, the Economic Modernization Vision, and the National Social Protection Strategy.
