Amman: Minister of Education Dr. Azmi Mahafzeh has underscored the collective responsibility of preserving and promoting the Arabic language, emphasizing its integral role in education and daily communication. Speaking on the occasion of World Arabic Language Day (WALD), observed annually on December 18th, Dr. Mahafzeh highlighted the necessity of integrating Arabic into educational curricula, classrooms, and official communications to ensure its proper usage.
According to Jordan News Agency, Dr. Mahafzeh noted that Arabic, as the language of the Holy Quran, has been pivotal in advancing human civilization by conveying sciences and fostering literature and thought. The language's rich vocabulary and profound meanings have made significant contributions globally. He reminded attendees that Arabic was recognized in 1973 by the United Nations General Assembly as an official working language, underscoring its global importance and influence.
Dr. Mahafzeh stressed that with over 400 million speakers, Arabic continues to serve as a vital medium for learning and communication. He called for schools and educational institutions to actively promote the language through engaging curricula, extracurricular activities, and innovative teaching methods that connect students with the language and its creative potential.
Moreover, Dr. Mahafzeh highlighted the role of educational institutions in supporting scientific research in Arabic and promoting translation and authorship. Such efforts, he stated, would not only enhance knowledge production in Arabic but also encourage openness to other world languages, thus enriching the global exchange of ideas.
