The match began unfavorably for Egypt after New Zealand took the lead through Finn Surman in the 15th minute. However, Egypt responded strongly in the second half, overturning the deficit with three goals.

Mostafa Abdel Raouf "Zizo" restored balance in the 58th minute, before Mohamed Salah put Egypt ahead in the 67th minute. Substitute Mahmoud Hassan "Trezeguet" later secured the result with a third goal in the 82nd minute. The victory places Egypt ahead in the group standings, with a two-point lead over Iran and Belgium, who had drawn their previous encounter.
