Amman: Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh, along with the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC), Ziad Sa'aideh, visited the electricity transformer stations and control center of the Irbid Electricity Company.
According to Jordan News Agency, during their visit to the transformer station of the new Princess Basma Hospital project, Kharabsheh highlighted the facility's significance as a "strategic and advanced" asset. This station is considered essential for ensuring a continuous electricity supply to the hospital, which serves the northern governorates, thereby guaranteeing the sustainability and stability of the service.
At the main Sheikh Khalil transformer station, which supplies 25% of the governorate's electrical load, Kharabsheh noted that the recent heat wave exposed pressures and challenges within the Kingdom's electricity system. This situation has prompted the ministry, along with distribution and generation companies, to enhance their readiness to address future conditions with the highest level of efficiency, learning from past experiences to improve their capacity to maintain a reliable electric supply.
The ministry is actively coordinating with Jordan's distribution companies to ensure necessary maintenance and upgrades are conducted on power plants in preparation for the winter season. The minister announced that efforts are underway to raise preparedness levels across all distribution and generation companies to prevent future outages.
Sa'aideh shared that the EMRC has initiated inspection tours of the three distribution companies' stations, including those in the central governorates, to assess their readiness and glean insights from past emergency situations. He emphasized that the Kingdom's electricity system is currently operating with high efficiency and full readiness, under continuous monitoring to ensure its sustainability and safety.
