Amman: The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources issued its first quarterly report for 2026 on Wednesday, highlighting achievements in financial reform and expanding the use of renewable energy.
According to Jordan News Agency, the report noted significant milestones in the gas and mineral resources sector as part of the Sustainable Resources Strategy within Jordan's Economic Modernization Vision. The ministry is currently overseeing 12 green hydrogen production projects in collaboration with international companies. Additionally, a preliminary report has been issued on developing a shared infrastructure mechanism for hydrogen projects to attract investments and regulate operations in this sector.
The report further highlighted progress in the renewable and energy efficiency sector with projects aimed at promoting clean energy and improving consumption efficiency. Efforts have begun on the installation of 399 solar systems for low-income families, targeting a total of 1,086 systems. In the Mafraq Governorate, 1,611 traditional streetlights were replaced with LED units under the energy efficiency improvement program. An agreement was also signed to install solar thermal water heaters in nine government hospitals in the Northern Region.
Support initiatives included the "Fils Al-Reef" (Rural Electrification) program, which approved 359 out of 480 reviewed applications to provide electricity to remote areas. Eligible groups, such as injured military personnel, benefited from the installation of 27 solar energy systems from a target list of 175.
In the exploration and production sector, 50% of consultancy agreements for drilling 80 wells in the Risha field were completed, with operations commencing on the first two 500-meter wells. A third well is being drilled to the same depth, and three new wells have been connected to the production lines, boosting production capacity. The removal of interference from 3D seismic surveys in the Jafr area has also been completed, marking the beginning of the data processing phase.
The financial reform plan has achieved a real reduction in energy sector losses for 2025, saving approximately JD113 million by reducing electricity-related losses and lowering operating costs. This progress is in line with the ministry's strategic projects aimed at enhancing reliance on renewable energy, developing local resources, and improving financial and operational efficiency.
