Seoul: Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman visited the headquarters of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in Seoul, South Korea, where he engaged in discussions with the Fund's Executive Director, Mafalda Duarte, and the Regional Director for the Middle East, Amjad Mehdi. This visit was part of his participation in the Global Green Growth Week (GGGI Week 2025).
According to Jordan News Agency, Suleiman expressed his gratitude to the Green Climate Fund and its Board for their approval of $295 million in financing for the Aqaba-Amman Water Desalination and Conveyance Project. He highlighted the project's significance as a key component in enhancing Jordan's national water security and tackling water scarcity challenges.
Mafalda Duarte conveyed her satisfaction with the partnership between the Green Climate Fund and Jordan, commending the efforts of the Jordanian government in securing this crucial funding. She remarked that the project is the largest single investment by the Green Climate Fund globally and one of the most strategic water projects worldwide. Duarte expressed her eagerness to witness the project's outcomes.
Suleiman emphasized the need for continued collaboration between Jordan and the Green Climate Fund to support additional national and regional projects. These efforts aim to foster environmental sustainability and improve climate and water resilience in Jordan.
