Brussels: European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on Wednesday that the Commission intends to propose sanctions on far-right Israeli ministers and a partial suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement concerning trade-related matters.
According to Jordan News Agency, von der Leyen made this declaration during an address to the European Parliament in Strasbourg. She emphasized that the Commission will take independent actions, including the establishment of a donor group for Palestinians next month, which will incorporate a tool for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
Von der Leyen condemned the use of man-made famine as a weapon of war. "What is happening in Gaza has shaken the conscience of the world," she stated in her State of the Union speech. She described the dire situation, where people are being killed while begging for food and mothers are carrying dead children, as catastrophic. She urged that these atrocities must cease for the sake of children and humanity.
