Brussels: The European Council announced the approval of a third aid package worth £60 million for the Lebanese Armed Forces as part of the European Peace Facility. This initiative is designed to enhance the capabilities of the Lebanese Armed Forces, enabling them, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701, to redeploy and maintain stability in the area south of the Litani River.
According to Jordan News Agency, the memo issued in Brussels on Tuesday outlined this measure as part of the ongoing efforts to support Lebanon in maintaining security and stability. The European Peace Facility, launched by the European Union in March 2021, aims to fund actions related to the EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy. The focus of this facility is on conflict prevention, peacekeeping, and promoting international security and stability.
