Brussels:EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has cautioned against the suspension of sanctions on Russia, emphasizing that it is "not the time" to ease pressure following a recent diesel agreement between the US and Russia.
According to Anadolu Agency, Kallas highlighted concerns that suspending sanctions on Russian diesel would increase Moscow's revenues, potentially fueling further conflict. She stressed that Europe remains committed to maintaining pressure on Russia. Kallas also mentioned that EU foreign ministers are set to approve the "biggest set of sanctions listings" against Russia on Monday.
In related developments, US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a phone conversation on Friday. Trump characterized the talks as 'highly successful,' announcing that Russia agreed to 'immediately supply' over 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to the US and global markets. The agreement includes further supplies of 500,000 tons in November and an additional 1 million tons, with 3 million tons more anticipated shortly thereafter, subject to the condition of Russian diesel refineries.
Putin stated that the increase in Russian diesel supplies would positively impact the global economy. He also noted that the discussions with Trump covered the global energy sector, the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the situation in Iran, and bilateral relations between the US and Russia.
