The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on Monday launched a field epidemiology training program for Jordanian veterinarians.

Funded by the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) – United Kingdom, the program aims to produce qualified specialists in field veterinary epidemiology in Jordan to deal with animal breeders and to investigate, evaluate, analyze and report outcomes of epidemiological investigations effectively and quickly, in addition to improving the ability of veterinarians to prevent, detect and respond to animal diseases, according to a FAO statement.

This activity is part of the “Enhancing Global Capacities in Veterinary Epidemiology and Monitoring and Sharing of Regional Information for Disease Control” project, which assesses Jordan’s specific needs to develop a training program that fills these gaps, the statement explained.
