Amman: First Deputy Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Khamis Atieh stated on Sunday that the 20th parliament represents the implementation of royal directives aimed at modernizing the political and partisan system and elevating parliamentary life in the kingdom.
According to Jordan News Agency, Atieh, during an appearance on the "Parliament Dome" program broadcast on Al Mamlaka TV, highlighted that parliamentary life in Jordan is experiencing a pivotal phase in the state's history. He emphasized that the lower house's role extends beyond passing legislation to working with a national spirit that reflects the political, economic, and social reform vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II.
Atieh added that institutional development requires continuous review of regulations, stressing that any institution seeking progress must re-evaluate its organizational tools to keep pace with changes and achieve optimal performance levels. The first deputy speaker explained that the internal regulations of the Lower House require review and development to align with rapid global advancements, meet the requirements of the new political phase, and fulfill the ambitions of the political modernization project, thereby enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of parliamentary work.
Regarding the current extraordinary session, Atieh indicated that it includes a package of draft laws directly impacting citizens' lives. He emphasized that the parliament is exercising its constitutional and legislative duties to improve legislation and regulate relations between the state, its institutions, and citizens to achieve the public interest.
He pointed out that meetings held by parliamentary committees before the launch of the extraordinary session were part of a participatory approach aimed at listening to diverse viewpoints and consulting with relevant authorities and experts to address key observations on the draft bills before they are debated on the floor. Atieh reaffirmed that the Lower House is moving forward with its legislative and oversight duties based on a reform vision rooted in dialogue and openness, ensuring the passage of high-quality legislation that responds to the needs of citizens and supports the comprehensive modernization process led by His Majesty King Abdullah II.
