Amman: The first edition of the Madaba Mosaic Run 2026, set to take place next Friday, will provide an opportunity to showcase the city's historical and cultural identity while supporting tourism efforts in Madaba and across the Kingdom.
According to Jordan News Agency, the race is being organized by the Jordan Marathon Association (Run Jordan) in partnership with Greater Madaba Municipality, with support from the Greater Amman Municipality and the Jordan Athletics Federation.
Head of the Greater Madaba Municipality Committee Heitham Jweinat said hosting the race for the first time in the governorate reflects Madaba's status as the "City of Mosaics" and highlights the connection between sports, heritage, and culture. He said participants will have the chance to experience the city's landmarks while taking part in a sporting event.
Jweinat added that the municipality, in cooperation with Run Jordan, the Traffic Department, and the Public Security Directorate, has completed preparations for the event, including traffic arrangements and safety measures. He called on residents and motorists to follow the instructions issued by security and traffic personnel and comply with temporary traffic arrangements along the race routes.
He noted that municipal teams will work with all involved parties to ensure the event is organized in a way that reflects Madaba's cultural importance and provides a safe environment for participants and visitors.
The race will welcome runners from different nationalities, age groups, and experience levels, including professional athletes and amateurs. The routes have been designed to combine athletic participation with an opportunity to explore Madaba's historic sites, with the 10-kilometer race starting from Mount Nebo and the 5-kilometer race beginning in Faisaliyah. Both races will conclude at the Madaba Visitors Center.
Run Jordan Director General Lina Kurd said preparations are continuing for the event, which will be held under the patronage of HRH Prince Firas bin Raad, chairman of the association's board of directors.
She said registration remains open until Thursday through the association's official website, as well as through Run Jordan offices in Amman and Greater Madaba Municipality.
Kurd highlighted that the race will also include participants with disabilities, reflecting the association's efforts to promote inclusion and provide opportunities for everyone to take part in sporting activities through suitable arrangements and support.
She added that organizing races in different parts of Jordan is part of Run Jordan's approach to promoting local destinations, encouraging tourism, and supporting communities by linking sporting events with the cultural and historical features of each area.
