New york: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi took part in the annual coordination meeting of foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states. The event was held on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. According to Jordan News Agency, in his speech, Safadi urged the international community to halt the Israeli aggression on Gaza, stop the escalation in the occupied West Bank, and end Israel's regional attacks, which threaten security and peace. He emphasized that protecting Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif and preserving Jerusalem's identity is a priority for Jordan, highlighting the Hashemite Custodianship of these holy sites. Safadi stressed the role of the Jordan-run Jerusalem Awqaf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, as the legal entity responsible for administering Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif. He affirmed Jordan's commitment to confront and document Israel i violations and keep the OIC informed. Safadi called for collective action by OIC member states to protect Jerusalem's holy sites. He also held bilateral meetings with Arab and foreign counterparts, as well as UN and international officials, including an extensive discussion with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The discussions with Lavrov focused on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing regional developments. Both ministers stressed the need for a ceasefire in Gaza and a prisoner exchange agreement to address the humanitarian crisis. They also emphasized the importance of allowing sustainable aid into Gaza and halting the escalation in the West Bank and the region.
