Amman: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, and French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-No«l Barrot, held extensive talks on efforts to end regional escalation and protect against its repercussions on international peace and security.

According to Jordan News Agency, Safadi and Barrot emphasized the importance of de-escalating tensions between Israel and Iran and resuming negotiations to prevent the expansion of conflict and its dangerous consequences. Safadi highlighted upcoming talks in Geneva involving France, Germany, and the United States with Iran, aiming to diplomatically resolve the Iranian nuclear issue.

The ministers also called for intensified efforts to establish a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and ensure the immediate and adequate delivery of aid. Safadi highlighted the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza due to ongoing aggression and the denial of aid to Palestinians.

The discussions also touched on escalating tensions in the West Bank, with Safadi warning against illegal Israeli actions that threaten the two-state solution and the Palestinian economy. He stressed that protecting the two-state solution should be a priority for countries supporting this framework as a path to comprehensive peace.

Safadi reaffirmed Arab countries' commitment to the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative, which proposes normal relations with Israel within a comprehensive solution framework. This includes ending the Israeli occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The ministers discussed preparations for an international conference on the two-state solution, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, postponed due to Israeli aggression against Iran. Safadi praised France's role in efforts to achieve peace based on the two-state solution and called for recognizing the Palestinian state to pressure for its implementation.

On Syrian developments, Safadi emphasized the importance of supporting Syria's reconstruction while ensuring the country's unity, sovereignty, and stability, eliminating terrorism, and facilitating the voluntary return of refugees.

The statement affirmed joint cooperation in supporting Lebanon's security and stability and highlighted the strong Jordanian-French partnership. The ministers committed to ongoing collaboration to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza, achieve a ceasefire, and establish a path to comprehensive peace in the region.
