Amman, Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, in a phone call on Thursday with French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna, discussed the serious Israeli escalation in the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif and the international moves required to stop the escalation and respect the existing legal and historical situation in the city of Jerusalem and its holy sites.

During the phone call, Safadi stressed the need to crystallize an effective international move to stop the Israeli violations of the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif, and to ensure respect for the legal and historical status quo in it and in all Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

In the phone call, which took place prior to a special session of the Security Council to discuss the Israeli escalation at a joint Jordanian-Palestinian invitation and at the request of the United Arab Emirates, the Arab member of the council, the foreign minister warned of the danger of storming of the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif by the Israeli minister and its repercussions on security and stability.

Safadi also warned of the danger of the extremist exclusionary ideology that the Israeli minister holds and the need to send a clear international message condemning and rejecting it.

Safadi thanked the French minister for her country’s position, which rejected the raid, and called on respecting the legal and historical situation in the holy sites and to support the role of the Hashemite custodianship over them, and for her support for holding the Security Council session today.

Colonna said that her country stresses the need to respect the legal and historical situation on the Al Haram and to stop all unilateral measures that undermine the two-state solution.

The two ministers agreed to continue joint work through the Munich Group, which includes, in addition to Jordan, France, Egypt and Germany, in order to stop measures that undermine the chances of achieving a just and comprehensive peace, and in order to find a real political horizon and resume negotiations to resolve the conflict on the basis of the two-state solution.
