Berlin: Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi and German Foreign Minister Johann David Wadephul engaged in discussions in Berlin, addressing efforts to de-escalate tensions between Israel and Iran and to achieve a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. The talks aimed to enhance bilateral ties and coordinate on regional challenges, underscoring the strategic partnership with the European Union.
According to Jordan News Agency, Safadi and Wadephul explored methods to strengthen cooperation across various fields. During a joint press conference, Safadi emphasized the importance of the dialogue with Wadephul, noting that the region's current escalation necessitates collaborative efforts to halt the conflict and prevent further destruction that threatens international peace and security.
Safadi highlighted the friendship between Jordan and Germany, which is grounded in mutual respect and a shared commitment to security, peace, and stability. He also noted the progress in Jordanian-German relations, particularly in economic, investment, and defense cooperation, and praised Germany's support for refugees, emphasizing its role in addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Safadi condemned Israeli actions against Iran as violations of international law and stressed the importance of diplomatic solutions to prevent nuclear proliferation in the Middle East. He reiterated the regional consensus that Iran should not possess nuclear weapons and advocated for a Middle East free of nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction.
He called for an immediate ceasefire and the urgent entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, highlighting the ongoing crisis where over 100 Palestinians were killed in a single day. Safadi reaffirmed Jordan's commitment to protecting holy sites and Jerusalem's religious and cultural significance and emphasized the need for a two-state solution to ensure regional security.
