Amman:The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has deployed additional crews, vehicles, and equipment to assist waste collection contractors across the city, resulting in a reported 51 percent decline in complaints since these companies began managing cleaning services.
According to Jordan News Agency, GAM announced it is temporarily reinforcing contractors' operations until new waste compactors and other equipment are delivered and operational. An increase in fleet capacity is expected by the end of October, with further deliveries planned before the year's end.
These efforts aim to maintain uninterrupted waste collection, prevent waste accumulation, and improve service consistency throughout Amman's neighborhoods. GAM is also reorganizing operational responsibilities with contractors, assigning areas and workloads based on available resources, and monitoring field performance.
This week, cleaning efforts are being intensified at sites with frequent waste accumulation reports. Crews are revisiting these locations to ensure ongoing collection and prevent recurrence of issues.
The phased arrival of new equipment will gradually enhance collection capacity, with GAM planning to release confirmed numbers and delivery dates, as well as details of vehicles that have entered service.
GAM anticipates a further significant improvement in cleanliness and waste collection over the next three weeks, with service levels expected to rise as new equipment becomes operational. Additionally, reports from residents about specific locations help identify areas needing attention, allowing crews to respond more efficiently.
The municipality and its contractors are tasked with maintaining regular collection and clearing accumulated waste. Adherence to waste-disposal regulations is also emphasized as a means to keep neighborhoods clean.
