Amman: The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) launched the Google Roads Management Insights (RMI) smart traffic management platform on Monday, in cooperation with Techkore, Consolidated Consultants Group for Engineering and Environment, and OniGroup Global. The project aims to support traffic monitoring and planning through interactive dashboards and key performance indicators, enabling decision-makers to gain a more comprehensive understanding of traffic conditions and objectively assess the impact of traffic projects and measures, GAM said in a statement.
According to Jordan News Agency, GAM Chairman Yousef Shawarbeh stated that the municipality will carry out royal directives to improve public services and quality of life through its strategic plan, which includes digital transformation projects and turning Amman into a smart city. The project aligns with national transformation priorities and the Economic Modernization Vision's objectives of advancing digital transformation and using technology and data to improve the efficiency of public services and develop effective solutions to the city's challenges.
Shawarbeh pointed to traffic congestion as one of Amman's most pressing challenges, emphasizing the need for forward-looking plans based on accurate, real-world data to support sound decisions and the transition toward a smart and sustainable city. He also highlighted public-private partnerships that provide reliable data for informed decision-making and efficient allocation of financial resources, helping ease congestion, improve residents' daily lives, and enhance spending efficiency.
GAM Executive Director for Traffic Mohammad Al-Jadou indicated that the project backs smart-city and smart-mobility concepts by providing a comprehensive view of the citywide road network, analyzing congestion levels, monitoring speeds, and identifying traffic bottlenecks. These capabilities would support faster, more accurate, and more efficient decision-making.
Techkore General Manager Saifallah Alawaisheh presented the platform, its implementation plan, timeline, roles, and responsibilities.
