Gaza: At least 63,025 Palestinians have been killed in Israel's war on the Gaza Strip since October 2023, as five more people died of starvation in the enclave, the Health Ministry said on Friday. A ministry statement reported that 59 bodies were brought to hospitals in the last 24 hours, while 224 people were injured, increasing the total number of injuries to 159,490 in the ongoing Israeli offensive.

According to Anadolu Agency, the ministry highlighted that many victims remain trapped under rubble and on roads as rescuers struggle to reach them. The report further noted that 23 Palestinians were killed and over 182 were injured by Israeli army fire while attempting to access humanitarian aid in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of Palestinians killed in such circumstances to 2,203, with over 16,228 others wounded since May 27.

The ministry also reported that five more Palestinians succumbed to malnutrition and starvation in the last 24 hours. This has raised the famine-linked death toll since October 2023 to 322, including 121 children. The closure of all Gaza border crossings by Israeli authorities since March 2 has exacerbated the situation, pushing the 2.4 million population into famine conditions.

A UN-backed food security assessment has confirmed famine in northern Gaza and predicts it will spread further south by the end of September. The Israeli army resumed its attacks on March 18, leading to 11,178 deaths and 47,449 injuries, disrupting a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement established in January.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice related to its actions in the enclave.
