Geagea outlines Lebanon’s future in MTV interview, emphasizes presidency, Hezbollah, and arab relations

In an interview on Monday evening with Marcel Ghanem on MTV, Lebanese Forces Party leader, Samir Geagea, discussed critical issues shaping Lebanon's future. From internal reforms to the ongoing crisis, Geagea presented his views, particularly addressing the presidency, Hezbollah, and Lebanon's relations with Arab nations. Geagea dismissed the notion of a symbolic president, emphasizing the need for a leader capable of implementing deep reforms. He stressed the importance of a president with a clear agenda, stating, 'We do not want a president who simply shines in Baabda Palace.' While open to considering Army Commander Joseph Aoun for the role, Geagea insisted on knowing his political program before supporting his candidacy. Geagea maintained a balanced stance on Hezbollah, stating he does not seek to defeat the party but to reintegrate it into the state's framework. He urged the Shiite community to align its interests with those of the country, acknowledging that many within the community do not suppor t Hezbollah's logic. Geagea further underscored the urgent need to restore Lebanon's relations with Arab countries, particularly Saudi Arabia, to revive the struggling economy. He warned that this would not happen if Lebanon returns to pre-war conditions. Geagea concluded by emphasizing the need for a Lebanese-led initiative to resolve the current crisis, pointing to the roadmap proposed by the Lebanese Forces as the best solution to end the conflict.
