Amman: The General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU), in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO), organized a discussion session titled "Maternity Protection: Enhancing Maternity Protection for Working Women in Jordan." This session, held on Wednesday, was the second in a series planned for the month and included participation from representatives of government bodies, trade unions, employers, and civil society groups.
According to Jordan News Agency, the session aimed to highlight the social and economic significance of social insurance systems, focusing on maternity insurance and its empowerment of working women. The discussions also examined the progress, challenges, and opportunities related to maternity protection in labor legislation, as well as its connection to women's economic involvement and the Economic Modernization Vision.
GFJTU Executive Office member Fathallah Amrani initiated the session, which featured Reem Aslan, Manager of the Decent Work for Women Program. The dialogue concentrated on the challenges of maternity protection and the social protection systems available to working women. Mohammad Khreis, Director of the Research and Studies Department at the Social Security Corporation, presented on maternity and social insurance, including details of the "Care" program and support for nursery operating expenses.
This session is a component of national dialogues under the "Power of Trade Unions for a More Inclusive and Gender-Equal World of Work" project, conducted in partnership with the Decent Work for Women Program. These dialogues aim to develop policy recommendations that promote gender equality and decent work, contributing to the upcoming national conference on women and international labor standards.
The collaboration between GFJTU and ILO is part of the "Equality at Work" project, which is funded by the Government of the Kingdom of Norway.
