Amman: The government has issued a circular addressing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in handling national emblems, flags, banners, sovereign symbols, images, and official seals. This directive aims to safeguard the integrity and authenticity of these national symbols from potential compromise due to AI technologies.
According to Jordan News Agency, the directive applies to all ministries, official departments, public institutions and bodies, public universities, municipalities, the Greater Amman Municipality, joint services councils, and government-owned companies. It strictly prohibits the use of AI programs, tools, or applications for creating, generating, modifying, processing, enhancing, or altering national symbols in any way that could compromise their authenticity or alter their approved form or content.
The circular orders that no national symbols manipulated using AI technologies should be published, circulated, adopted, or used if such use would compromise their integrity or official status. It emphasizes the necessity of using original or approved versions of national symbols, considering the rapid expansion of AI applications in design and content production and the potential for unintended alterations to these symbols.
While the directive restricts AI use in altering national symbols, it does not preclude AI technologies in media planning, idea development, content creation, analysis and review, and improving presentation methods, provided this does not affect the authenticity, form, content, or official specifications of national symbols.
The order highlights the enduring national and sovereign significance of these symbols and aims to protect them from any alteration or manipulation that might compromise their authenticity or official status. The government calls on relevant entities to ensure compliance with these regulations among their employees, users, and staff.
