Gov’t Committee Discusses Expedited Implementation of Aqaba-Shidiya-Maan Railway Project

Amman:Minister of Transport and Minister of Labor, Dr. Nidal Qatamin, chaired a meeting of the Higher Government Committee for the Aqaba-Shidiya-Maan railway project. The meeting, held on Thursday, included secretaries-general, representatives from relevant ministries and government entities, a representative from the Jordanian-Emirati Railway Company, stakeholders, and representatives from relevant security agencies.

According to Jordan News Agency, the discussions during the meeting focused on ways to streamline and accelerate the project's implementation and remove any potential obstacles. Dr. Qatamin emphasized the project's significance as a "key gateway for Jordan to regional and global markets." He described the project as a strategic step towards establishing a national railway network that would strengthen Jordan's position in the transport and logistics sector, support freight movement, and enhance connectivity between ports, production, and export hubs.

Dr. Qatamin proposed a "single, integrated" government interface to expedite approvals and procedures, streamline implementation requirements, and resolve obstacles. This approach aims to commence field operations and carry out the project without delay. Participants in the meeting called for maintaining direct coordination between government entities and the implementing company.

As a follow-up measure, the attendees agreed to hold regular meetings to address project requirements and facilitate necessary procedures. This is intended to ensure that government efforts are well-coordinated and accelerate the pace of work according to established technical and procedural standards.
