Green Energy Enhances Jordan’s Appeal for European Investment

Accra:Green energy is becoming a key element in Jordan's strategy to attract European industrial investment and position itself as a regional hub for sustainable manufacturing and exports, leveraging the global shift towards low-carbon economies.

According to Jordan News Agency, the Kingdom is preparing for the upcoming Jordan-EU Investment Conference on November 19 at the Dead Sea. This high-level forum will showcase investment opportunities worth approximately USD 15 billion in sectors such as energy, transport and logistics, the digital economy, manufacturing, and water security.

To align with international climate standards, the Ministry of Environment, with support from the European Union Delegation to Jordan, has launched technical support frameworks to update Phase II of the National Green Growth Action Plans for 2026-2030. These plans cover energy, transport, agriculture, water, tourism, and waste management.

In May, the Cabinet approved the updated Energy Sector Strategy for 2026-2030, which includes a phased expansion into green hydrogen production with a target of exporting 500,000 tons annually by 2035. The strategy also aims to upgrade grid infrastructure, scale vehicle-to-grid electric vehicle integration, transition heavy transport to natural gas, and expand industrial energy efficiency standards.

Industrial leaders in Jordan emphasize the country's competitive edge in green manufacturing and sustainable supply chain integration. Mohammad Al-Smadi of Giant Industrial Group noted the appeal of Jordan's clean energy resources, geopolitical stability, and preferential trade agreements with the EU for European manufacturers seeking to reduce carbon footprints and nearshore production.

Dr. Fadi Al-Atrash of Amman Pharmaceutical Industries highlighted the strategic opportunity presented by competitive green power tariffs to attract European firms. Streamlining regulations, accelerating approvals, and offering bankable project structures are deemed essential for maximizing investment.

Ghassan Nuqul of Nuqul Group and Fine Hygienic Holding added that advancements in energy storage and renewable technologies enable Jordanian industries to lower emissions, enhancing the Kingdom's attractiveness to European investors focused on sustainable supply chains.
