Baqa’a, The Director General of the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC), Nizar Haddad, Saturday, said the NARC is keen to leverage scientific research to tackle challenges facing the agriculture and the fishing industry.

Haddad noted the centre’s role in the fishing industry through the Ghor Al-Safi hatchery for agricultural research. Since 2019, the hatchery has supported the market with 40,000 fingerlings of fish annually and targeted the ponds of farmers and universities for academic purposes and businesses, according to a statement.

Haddad talked about climate changes and their role in affecting fish farming, explaining that they directly impact aquatic organisms of all kinds, whether by low or high temperatures, which may cause their death.

In turn, the Director of the Animal Resources Research Directorate, Sami Awabdeh, said fish is an “important” source of animal protein and has a high nutritional value, adding that t is “necessary” to preserve the industry and encourage investment in fish projects.
