Hammouri Calls for Strengthened Jordan-Syria Hospital Collaboration

Amman: Private Hospitals Association Chairman Fawzi Hammouri on Saturday emphasized the need for enhanced cooperation between Jordanian and Syrian private hospitals, with a focus on leveraging Jordan's experience in the healthcare sector.

According to Jordan News Agency, Hammouri was part of a Jordanian delegation led by Minister of Health Ibrahim Badour, which visited Syria on Thursday to foster bilateral cooperation in the health sector. The visit aimed to address several key issues, including capitalizing on Jordan's experience in health sector investment, pharmaceutical industry development, and expertise exchange.

Hammouri highlighted that the meetings with Syrian officials included discussions on potential cooperation in areas such as pharmaceutical manufacturing, quality assurance, drug registration procedures, hospital management, medical service development, and training programs for healthcare personnel.

He noted that private hospitals in Jordan constitute over 60 percent of the country's hospitals, providing employment for more than 40,000 Jordanians. This sector supports the national economy and attracts patients from Arab and foreign countries.

Hammouri remarked on Syria's current reconstruction phase, particularly the rehabilitation of its health sector, which necessitates effective public-private partnerships. He identified areas of collaboration such as treating patients outside Syria, training medical and administrative staff, and sharing expertise in hospital management. The discussions also explored opportunities for hospital management in Syria, as well as implementing quality standards and health accreditation.

During their visit, the Jordanian delegation toured hospitals, health facilities, and government pharmaceutical factories in Damascus, receiving briefings on the existing health services.
