Amman: The Hashemite University and the U.S. Embassy in Jordan have formalized an agreement to activate the "American Corner" within the university's library. This space is intended as a public venue for cultural, informational, and educational exchange.
According to Jordan News Agency, the memorandum of understanding was signed by University President Khaled Hiyari and U.S. Embassy Public Diplomacy Counselor Anthony Miranda. The agreement commits both parties to transform the American Corner into a modern knowledge hub accessible to everyone. The initiative is designed to enhance mutual understanding between Jordanians and Americans through cultural programs, digital resources, interactive activities, and educational opportunities related to the United States.
Hiyari stated that the agreement is a major advancement in the university's aspirations to engage with global academic and cultural experiences, further solidifying its regional and international academic reputation. He highlighted that the American Corner will act as a comprehensive knowledge center, providing students and faculty with access to advanced educational resources and global thinking models, aligning with the university's vision for a modern, integrated education.
Miranda pointed out that the American Corner signifies the enduring partnership between the two nations, focusing on shared objectives, promoting U.S. leadership in emerging technologies, and showcasing the benefits of collaboration with the United States. He noted that the American Corner has been an active platform for dialogue, learning, and innovation for over 20 years, reaching university students, faculty, and the wider community.
The signing was followed by a ceremony at the Hashemite University Library, where Library Director Kifah Omari discussed the corner's role in enhancing student skills and supporting the educational environment. The event concluded with the unveiling of a photo exhibition titled "Images of the Jordan-U.S. Partnership," which highlighted significant milestones in bilateral cooperation in education, culture, and tourism.
