Health Minister Feras Al-Hawari on Tuesday discussed with UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Amman, Anders Pedersen, ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in healthcare area.

A statement by the ministry on Wednesday said that the meeting was attended by a number of representatives of international bodies in Jordan, including the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the United Nation Population Fund (UNFPA).

During the meeting, Al-Hawari hailed efforts made by Pedersen and the international institutions’ representatives, which contributed to implementing many projects in healthcare and developing this sector, stressing that Jordan and the UN maintain cooperation to reach the largest COVID vaccination coverage for refugees in the Kingdom.

For his part, Pedersen reviewed the most prominent areas of cooperation with Jordan in the health domain, mainly during the COVID pandemic.

During the talks, the UN side agreed to persist coordination and cooperation with the ministry within specific priorities, the most of which are providing medical and primary healthcare services to reach a comprehensive health coverage, and how to deal with non-communicable diseases, in addition to encouraging people to receive coronavirus vaccines, the statement noted.
