Health Ministry Achieves 70% Completion of Strategic Plans in 2024: Minister Hawari

AMMAN: The Ministry of Health in Jordan has reportedly achieved a 70% completion rate on its strategic plans, including the Economic Modernization Vision, as of 2024, according to Minister of Health Firas Hawari. This announcement was made during a meeting with the Senate's Health, Environment, and Population Committee, led by Dr. Yassin Husban, where major challenges facing the Kingdom's health sector were also discussed.

According to Jordan News Agency, Minister Hawari highlighted that the ministry is moving forward with a health financing reform plan and comprehensive health coverage, with the initial phase expected to be implemented soon. He also noted that the ministry received the King Abdullah II Award for Excellence in Government Performance and Transparency in its ninth edition during the year.

In 2024, the World Health Organization declared Jordan free of leprosy, and the Kingdom joined the Global Platform for Access to Childhood Cancer Medicines. Additionally, the Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II Hospital saw an expansion, 17 new health centers were inaugurated, and 53 existing centers were maintained throughout the Kingdom.

Minister Hawari also announced the commencement of the Ma'an Governmental Hospital expansion and the launch of several initiatives, including the Jordanian Health Forum, the Service Recipient's Voice Unit, and the National Strategy to Combat Tobacco and Smoking in All Its Forms 2024-2030. Alongside these, reports from the National Cancer Registry for the years 2020, 2021, and 2022 were published in the past year.
