Health Ministry Announces Significant Price Reductions for 97 Drug Products


Amman: Minister of Health and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA), Dr. Ibrahim Bdour, has announced a significant reduction in prices for 97 drug products, with cuts ranging from 5% to 72%.



According to Jordan News Agency, this initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts, guided by Prime Minister Dr. Jaafar Hassan’s directives, to alleviate the economic burden on citizens and improve their access to medical treatment. Dr. Bdour emphasized that the list of reduced-price medications includes essential drugs widely used to treat various diseases.



Dr. Bdour further explained that this step aligns with the policy of the Ministry of Health and JFDA to control drug prices and improve availability, ensuring access to affordable medications and supporting national drug security. He also highlighted the commitment to a continuous periodic review of prices to stay in line with global market developments and protect the interests of Jordanian citizens.



JFDA Director General, Dr. Rana Obeidat, provided additional details on the price reductions, which affect 14 types of antibiotics, 8 dermatological medications, 8 respiratory products, 8 nervous system medications, 2 drugs for gastrointestinal treatment, 2 for treating fertility and reproductive system issues, and 25 drugs for cancer and autoimmune diseases. The decision also includes price cuts for 1 ophthalmological medication, 2 endocrine drugs, and 5 types of analgesics and fever reducers, along with 8 and 14 hematological and cardiac medications, respectively.



Dr. Obeidat also outlined the JFDA’s future policy, which will focus on continuing the implementation of policies and strengthening efforts to ensure the availability of safe and effective medications for Jordanians through rigorous price monitoring and safety oversight.
