Amman: The Lower House Foreign Affairs Committee, chaired by MP Haitham Ziyadin, held a meeting with Canadian Ambassador to Jordan, Louis Martin, to explore ways of strengthening bilateral relations and fostering parliamentary cooperation.
According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting focused on regional and international issues of shared interest, with discussions on enhancing joint efforts in political dialogue, development, and parliamentary exchange. During the meeting at the House's headquarters, Ziyadin highlighted Canada's significant role on the global stage, expressing gratitude for its support of Jordan's stances and recommendations concerning the protection of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, as well as its backing of the Hashemite custodianship over these sacred locations.
Ziyadin noted that Canada's position demonstrates its adherence to international law and resolutions, and its dedication to preserving the historical and legal status quo of Jerusalem. He also advocated for stronger bilateral relations, especially in religious tourism, pointing out Jordan's religious and historical importance as a host to numerous holy sites. This, he emphasized, offers a promising opportunity to develop tourism cooperation, attract Canadian visitors and pilgrims, and enhance cultural exchange between the two nations.
Committee members underscored the need to broaden cooperation with Canada, especially in areas concerning human rights, supporting the Palestinian cause, and maintaining the status quo in Jerusalem. Ambassador Louis Martin expressed appreciation for Jordan's pivotal role in promoting regional security and stability, reaffirming Canada's ongoing support for Jordan's efforts to achieve peace and stability both regionally and internationally, and the expansion of bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Both parties called for sustained parliamentary communication and coordination to bolster bilateral ties, support just causes, and foster cooperation between Jordan and Canada.
