Chairman of the Lower House Foreign Affairs Committee, MP Mirza Bolad, affirmed support to His Majesty King Abdullah II’s stances in various international and regional forums towards the issues of the Arab and Islamic nations, foremost is the Palestinian cause, noting that it is Jordan’s “central” issue.

Bolad made the remarks at the committee’s meeting on Thursday, with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, to discuss the latest regional developments, particularly the Palestinian cause, and Jordanian efforts to address related files.

During His Majesty’s visit to the United States of America, Bolad noted the King’s meeting with President Joe Biden, next Monday, has “great” importance in terms of its timing, the issues to be discussed, and the strategic relations between the two countries, especially as the first visit by an Arab leader to meet the new US administration.

Praising the King’s efforts and his wise policy to deal with all files, the lawmaker also lauded endeavors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in strengthening Jordan’s “pivotal” role based on moderation, and diplomacy to protect Jordan’s supreme national interests.

For their part, the committee’s members highlighted the importance of the Hashemite custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, which supports steadfastness of the Palestinian people to protect the Arab identity of the holy sites and foil all attempts by the Israeli occupation to change the holy city’s geographical and demographic status quo.

In turn, Safadi briefed the lawmakers on the official Royal visit to Washington, and the upcoming summit that will bring His Majesty with President Biden, which will go over the “historic, strategic” relations between the two countries, and ways to enhance their prospects in various fields, in addition to the latest developments in the region.

Safadi also reviewed the Kingdom’s continuous efforts, led by His Majesty, to achieve security and stability in the region to serve Arab causes, foremost is support to Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights and their right to freedom and an independent and sovereign state on the June 4, 1967 lines with occupied Jerusalem as its capital, and stop violations and attacks Israel in Jerusalem and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories.
