Amman: The Palestine Committee at the Lower House of Parliament expressed strong disapproval of the Israeli Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee's approval of a draft law targeting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). The committee labeled this move as an aggressive act aimed at undermining the refugee issue, violating international law, and challenging fundamental humanitarian values and conventions. The committee highlighted the concerning nature of the international silence on this issue.
According to Jordan News Agency, the committee also criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to the Al-Buraq Wall site. It described this action as a direct attack on Islamic holy sites and a provocation towards Muslims and Arabs. Committee Chairman MP Suleiman Al-Saud stated that these actions reflect an occupation mindset grounded in religious extremism, aiming to enforce control through force and embodying racist settlement policies that threaten regional security and stability.
Al-Saud emphasized that these developments are part of a broader strategy to escalate tensions in the region, perpetuating a cycle of violence and instability. He urged the international community to break its silence and fulfill its legal and humanitarian duties by taking decisive action to stop these aggressive policies. The committee warned that continued practices of this nature could lead to a significant deterioration of the situation, calling for an urgent international response to prevent further escalation.
The committee stressed the necessity for the international community to meet its moral and legal responsibilities to compel Israel to cease its provocations and incursions at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. They highlighted the importance of this action to maintain regional peace and security and uphold international legitimacy, which they claim is being disregarded by the occupation.
