Amman: Speaker of the Lower House of Representatives, Mazen Qadi, on Sunday engaged in discussions with the Chairperson of the National Center for Human Rights (NCHR), Samar Hajj Hassan, focusing on future cooperation in the realm of human rights.
According to Jordan News Agency, Qadi emphasized the crucial role played by the NCHR in evaluating the national human rights landscape. He stated that the House attaches significant attention to the center's reports, prioritizing human rights and public freedoms to showcase the Kingdom's efforts in this domain and to fortify the human rights framework and the rule of law.
Qadi highlighted that the House, through its Freedoms and Human Rights Committee, will scrutinize the center's reports, giving considerable importance to the recommendations and ensuring follow-up on the related feedback, in alignment with Royal directives.
In response, Hajj Hassan reiterated the partnership with the Lower House to forge a unified vision on how to execute the recommendations from the center's annual reports and integrate them into the legislative and oversight functions of the House. She highlighted the center's ongoing commitment to collaboration with the House, aiming to establish a shared vision for cooperation on laws and issues related to human rights, as well as addressing citizens' complaints submitted through NCHR's channels.
Hajj Hassan also underscored the significance of the center's involvement in the deliberations of the House's special committees to discuss and present recommendations on draft laws. Looking ahead, she advocated for regular meetings between the center and pertinent parliamentary committees, structured around clear timelines and specific performance indicators, to effectively prioritize issues and bolster human rights in the Kingdom.
