Houthi Shelling Kills 2, Injures 16 in Yemen’s Taiz Province

Taiz:At least two civilians were killed and 16 others injured in a Houthi shelling incident across several areas in Yemen's southwestern Taiz province. This information comes from Yemen's Interior Ministry, which reported that the attack took place on Saturday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Interior Ministry detailed that among the injured were three children, six women, and several elderly individuals. The attacks targeted multiple locations, including Al-Nawazil, Al-Qasr, Al-Dhabab, al-Thalatheen Street, Samea, Al-Aqrud, Al-Zanouj, Akkad, Al-Dhahr al-Ulya, and the Al-Hangar checkpoint.

There has been no response from the Houthis regarding the Ministry's statement.

In a separate statement on Facebook, Yemen's army's 22nd Mecha Brigade reported that government forces, with support from the Popular Resistance, successfully repelled a Houthi attack on the Al-Shaqab area south of Taiz. The statement claimed that more than 25 Houthi fighters were killed, several others wounded, and a military vehicle equipped with a 23 mm gun destroyed during the clashes.

The brigade also noted that government forces executed counterattacks using drones against Houthi positions on the Al-Shaqab front and managed to shoot down a Houthi suicide drone over the Al-Arous area in southern Taiz.

These incidents occur amid a military escalation that began in July, marking the most intense conflict since a UN-brokered truce took effect in April 2022. Yemen has been mired in conflict since the Houthis took control of the capital Sanaa and several provinces in September 2014, prompting a Saudi-led coalition intervention in March 2015 to support the internationally recognized government.
