The Basra Police Command announced "today the success of a qualitative security operation that resulted in the arrest of a dangerous suspect wanted for several crimes including murder, drug trafficking, and threatening citizens. Basra Police Commander, Major General Latif Abdul-Ridha Al-Saad, explained in a statement "that the operation came as a result of intensive efforts by a specialized team led by the Director of the Basra Crime Control Department in cooperation with the Basra SWAT Force, where accurate information was collected and the location of the suspect was determined. After setting up a tight ambush, he was arrested along with two other dangerous suspects. The Major General pointed out that narcotics, drug use devices, and weapons (a pistol and a hand grenade) were seized from the defendants. They confessed during the investigations to committing seven criminal acts, including murder, threats, in addition to their involvement in international drug trafficking.
