New Delhi: India and the UK have announced their commitment to enhance bilateral relations, according to officials. During a visit to New Delhi, UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy expressed the UK's strong interest in bolstering cooperation across key sectors such as trade and investment, defense and security, technology, innovation, and clean energy. This was stated in an official release from the Indian Foreign Ministry.
According to Anadolu Agency, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and David Lammy exchanged views on regional and global issues during their meeting. Lammy also held discussions with his Indian counterpart, S. Jaishankar. During the talks, Lammy condemned an attack in Indian-administered Kashmir on April 22, which resulted in the loss of 26 lives and heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. Lammy expressed support for India's stand against cross-border terrorism, while Modi emphasized the need for decisive international action against terrorism and its supporters.
Lammy's visit to New Delhi follows a recent trip to Pakistan and occurs in the context of military tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors, which have de-escalated following a US-mediated ceasefire on May 10.
In discussions with Jaishankar, India's top diplomat highlighted the progress of the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Jaishankar noted that as collaboration continues, new opportunities are emerging. Lammy also commented on social media platform X that the UK and India are entering a new era of relations, emphasizing advancements in trade, technology, climate crisis solutions, and enhanced security.
In his meeting with Modi, Lammy reiterated the UK's commitment to deepening the partnership with India, celebrating the unique connections between the two nations, and focusing on delivering growth and security.
