Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yousef Shamali Saturday discussed during separate meetings with Romanian Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Adrian Chesnoiu and a US Department of Agriculture official a number of issues related to cooperation in economic and food security fields.

The Jordanian and Romanian sides tackled ways of enhancing cooperation in the areas of food security, working to increase bilateral trade and stimulating the Jordanian and Romanian private sectors to launch investment partnerships that serve the two countries’ interests, according to a ministry statement.

Shamali noted that Romania is one of the key markets from which Jordan imports many strategic commodities, including wheat, barley, meat and livestock, stressing the importance of cementing economic cooperation between the two countries and maximizing the benefit from available opportunities.

For his part, the Romanian minister stressed his country’s interest in forging closer economic relations with Jordan, especially in the areas of food security, trade, investment and the exchange of expertise.

In a meeting with Foreign Service Officer of the US Department of Agriculture Elizabeth Mello, Shamali commended continued US support of Jordan, which, he said, helped to boost the national economy in the face of challenges.

He said that the United States is one of Jordan’s most important economic and trading partners, noting that relations took a boost, thanks to a signed free trade agreement between the two countries.
