Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yousef Shamali Monday discussed with Egyptian Ambassador to Jordan Sharif Kamel a number of issues to enhance economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

The minister stressed the strong Jordanian-Egyptian ties in the various fields, which, he said, should reflect on the level of bilateral economic cooperation.

He said work is continuing to remove barriers to intra-trade, maximize the benefit from available opportunities, stimulate the two countries’ private sector to launch more economic partnerships and follow up on the implementation of the outputs of the Jordanian-Egyptian Joint Higher Committee, which held its ninth session in Amman in March under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh and his Egyptian counterpart Mostafa Madbouly.

Shamali pointed to ongoing efforts to enhance economic relations through tripartite cooperation between Jordan, Egypt and Iraq, and implement the outcomes of three-way summits that brought together His Majesty King Abdullah II, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al Sisi and Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Kadhimi, and work to achieve economic integration in many fields.

For his part, the Egyptian envoy said his country is interested in raising the level of economic relations with Jordan in various fields, increasing the trade volume, stimulating the private sector in both countries and launching more investments toward integration.

The volume of trade between Jordan and Egypt was at about $718 million last year.
